Hiya,

I seek a very thin hookup wire ....something like this http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=6877348 )....but must be shapeable (is that a word?)  - some of the stuff I've bought previously isn't keen on being shaped & wants to spring back to it's original state. (a bit like my wife)

Now this is gonna be down to the type of insulation material...so out of the plethora of available insulation types, does anyone have a top tip as to the least springy back  type is ....for example the one I linked to say the insulation iS PPE....that means bo diddley squat to me (though I'm now hip to the groove that PTFE sucks for what I'm after)

tks in advance,

Ice-9

When I need very thin wire that keeps its shape well and, improtantly for thin wire the insulation does not recede when heat is applied with a soldering iron I tend to use Kynar wire. It may aor may not be what you want, check it out

Solid core wire tends too hold it's bent shape better than stranded.
You can try wire wrap wire. I have some. Its I think 30 gauge.

As far as insulation goes, try to find something with Teflon insulation.

I really need stranded though (solid wire breaks too easy)

Yeah, I avoid solid core wire for that same reason. Only time I use solid core is for jumpers.
If it doesn't get moved at all after installation, there should not be any problems.
But that's  probably not the response you wanted :(

Although what I am about to say will likely not be what you have in mind, it may give you some ideas...
When drilling PCB's, I have a line from my air compressor, into a rubber hose to blow the dust away...

I know this probably not going to be appropriate for your needs, but maybe it will give you some ideas.
I have a piece of simple bailing wire taped to the rubber hose. This helps it keep its shape.

+1 on the Kynar, aka wire wrap wire. No stranded wire will hold its shape as well as solid and if you are not going to bend the wire many times, it should not break.
This wire is 30 awg (gauge) and will handle most any current seen by a stompbox. I prefer the cheaper vinyl insulation over Teflon because the insulation separates from the wire with heat, less with vinyl.
