modding a bee baa

i built a bee baa up last weekend with a few different mods, and i really like it for what it is. however, i would like to see if i can get it to be sputtery as well as the great sustained fuzz sound that it does.  i have already tried starving the voltage, which does create the oscillation that some folks desire, but it's not for me. it doesn't matter to me how it's accomplished, so any ideas are more than welcome.  after i try some things i'll post a schematic of what i did just in case someone wants to try it out.

Ok, now, keep in mind this is about a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT project. But maybe it will give you some ideas.

A few years ago, I built J Musser's EZ headphone amp.
Of course I did some mods.
One mod was to use a pot instead of a switch for the gain control.
On the unused tab of the gain pot, I hooked up 4 clipping diodes (1N4148) to ground.
Made a nice splatty sound.

sounds like a good idea then. i was actually thinking about putting some clipping diodes in before the clipping section on a switch.  did you happen to try any different diodes when you did this?  i've also seen Ge diodes mentioned as having a noise gate type of effect when used in a crossover distortion type setup, so may try some diodes like that too.
