I read some girls here do that - girls who makes charms and jewels and whatever with swarowski crystals, keychains, earrings, and so on...The like to do this "chain" swap. Say girls A, B, C, D take part on the swap, A sends something to B, B sends to C, C to D and D to A. It can be a mini swap or more items, not only their diy works but even some candies for the receiver!!!

Now my idea - it would be sooooo freckin' cool to have a intercontinental swap!!! Obviously swaps have their rules.

So guys, do you think we can ever have one!?

this is exactly like the secret santa we did on ilovefuzz forum. it was really cool and we had over 50 people. they are still running tourboxes. but thats really just a bunch or free loaner pedals that you have for 2 days. it was cool cause all the DIY pedals where from fulltime boutique builders. the rest were mostly major brand boutique builders. lots of builders stepped up with special one offs that were designed or painted specially for ILF and secret santa. this was a way to show off and give back something special to ILF at the same time. I was broke but next year I'm IN. its a 60 page thread if you want to read.

That could be cool... I'd be in.  ;D

Sounds very cool! I'll keep an eye on this thread. (only built 4 pedals so far...but I just ordered 14 enclosures! so I guess I'll have something to contribute)

Great idea.  I'm in!

as long as it doesn't turn in to everyone dumping off their least favorite children. the secret santa had a rule that you dont send someone a stock dano or behringer just to get your custom hand painted 4 knob fuzz from some boutique builder. a lot of people even exceeded our expectations but it was voluntary. the recommended value of said pedal was aimed at $60 to $100. $60 if your poor but again, no filler, no crap. nothing worth more than $140 was traded mostly.

I'd say the rules that come to my mind.
The pedal must be built just for the occasion, no "lost-in-the-closet" pedal.
It would be great to make it a original circuit only.

Maybe set a couple rules like that it must fit in a 1590bb, must have custom graphics be they decals, etched, etc. Part cost between say $40-60. Shouldn't be too hard to get into since most of us have a stock of parts we'll be working with to design the circuit anyway.

That way everyone gets something similar to what they're sending off.

Original circuits only could be a cool idea... I better get in there and fire up the bread board... Are we talking original circuits designed just for this or stuff that we've built in the past that we call our own as well?

Renegadrian

1590 B or BB (I'd say B only), custom graphics (etched or decal) Circuits we call our own not just made for the swap.

I think you are making too many rules. there could be some awesome pedal that someone built and it wont be in the swap cause its a modded muff or whatever. I understand someone doesnt want a fuzz face if they already have one but in the end it all comes down to sound and what you like. regardless of how you got there. the way we got around this on ILF was that everyone posted general information on what they play and what they like. not too specific. like someone might say they like doom or oscillating fuzz but not say that they want a specific name and brand. also, we would read the posts of the person we were sending too to read what they like and if they play bass or guitar. you just click on the person's name and there are all the posts. its a good system for making people happy.

I like the overall idea, but agree with this post...

If its going to be a muff/etc then at least try to tweak it, change the tone stack, or do something slightly less stock?

I don't know that I'll have time to get involved, but if I can I'd definately take part.

This sounds like an awesome idea.  I once tried to set up an art swap at a place I worked, unfortunately I was the only one to swap and didn't get anything in return/ :icon_rolleyes:

I would be very interested in an altered plan of a 'sample swap' ie short term swap for sampling different pedals.  ie, I've got "x - I want to try out "y"  But that would have to be moderated because I can't imagine that x will match with y very often.

I will however keep my eye on this.
Since when is 3/4 of the way up "cranked"?

Renegadrian

I personally think that it would be awesome with those rules I wrote. A lot of people here "invent" or tweak to hell known ckts, so it'd be nice to have a "one-piece" instead of a "just-another-fuzz-face". Not that it has to be tremendously innovative (come on...) but not standard one we may have already built. So you say tweaked big muff...why not!? Else, if some more people decide to join, we can set less rules, in case the ones I wrote would be too strict. It doesn't have to be like I wrote, it was just my idea of it, ok!?
