Jose Davisson's Easy Drive -- two quick questions

Just to make sure I am getting this: the 680Ohm resistor allows a fixed but fairly full amount of drive to come out of the circuit (approximately 70% of what one would get it one used the suggested 1K gain pot mod), right?  as for the suggested 100KA volume pot addition...would a 500KA pot would work but release more low end, akin to a Fuzz Face circuit?
