tube boost only making noise

I tried building the "pentaboost" with the 5672 sub mini tube, in series with a 5840 tube. Built them separately for easier debugging.
The 5840 boost works great, but the 5672 just makes really bad noises if not powered by a battery, and I've used several capacitors for filtering.
Anybody else had problems with the 5672 tube? Tripled checked my build and measured so that all voltages are as they should.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

This might not have to do with the problem you are describing but...

How are you running the 2 sub-mini tubes on BATTERY power?  :icon_eek:

When I built Rick's (Frequency Central) Thermionique, which is a 5840 tube-based project, it was pulling 150mA just for the heater of ONE tube  :o

How are you getting away with battery power for TWO TUBES??

I've only run battery power for the 5672 as a single boost, not for the two tubes together. they are connected only by wire for the signal

This is a directly heated tube, any noise on the heaters will directly carry over

So a more substantial filtering for the power is what I need?
