Can someone point me to a useable tube buffer schema?

Basically one that uses half a 12ax7 triode to do the ~unity gain hi input lo output impedance thing, such as an effects send etc.

Is cathode follower a good option?

Yep, you're looking for a cathode follower.  Rk of 100k is pretty typical for driving things like tone stacks.  Add this to your reading list:

You left out a lot of information.
What voltage will you operate it at?
A 12ax7 as a CF?
Is this in a tube amp or a floor effect box or...?

IMO if at lower effect voltages I like emitter followers or source followers or opamp gain of 1 stages or other circuits better than a tube CF

also to add, a 12ax7 makes a poor cathode follower for this purpose, you want a lower MU tube 12au7 is better suited.
