Ok guys i need a little help with the sos vero.

I am not sure what the red line on the right side (near the tone). Is it just a jumper? Or do i need to put a wire there?

To me i dont see it connected to anything.

hobo_hephew

that would be for 9v supply of the IC

Also is 430k ok to replace 470k?

DonB

Its done. But not acting as it should. The drive pot makes no difference and the volume doesnt seem to do anything either.

The positive lead on a electo cap is the long one?

yep...look down the sidse of the cap.. you'll see little - negative markings too...

Yeah the red line means you have to connect ic pin8 row to the second row from the bottom, which carries 9V. I used a piece of insulated wire, else you can have 2 positive wires coming from the cd jack/battery. All is good as long both rows get voltage.
I used that layout to build 2 of them, so it is verified.

I don't think that the output cap can give you such trouble - if the volume pot is wired right, it must do its job the same. And that for the gain control too...You can try to take the output before the output cap, so at pin7, but I think that that is not the problem, you may want to check every connection and what happens before the output.

Same Vero board pic .....different question ?

Does the C6 cap have to be polarized , or can you use a NP metal film cap etc ??

Renegadrian

Didn't try it, but I guess it can be easily done!

Just wondering if the OP got it working. I built one from the same layout and have the same issue with the gain control. Nothing. the volume and tone controls work fine though.

Also take a look at the schem for reference, you'll clearly see how the gain pot is intended to be (typical tube screamer application)

I've gone over everything and still no function from the gain pot. I ran a razor blade down each track to make sure there are no solder bridges and tried different IC's and clipping diodes, even changed the gain pot. Nothing. The only thing I've changed from the original layout is C2 to .1uf and R4 to 2.2k for extra gain.
My voltages are
Battery 8.79v

IC pins
1-4.36
2-4.35
3-2.87
4-.01
5-4.34
6-4.35
7-4.34
8-8.78

After some searching around it seems that the voltage on pin 3 should be more like the voltages on pins 1 and 2. Is this correct?
