Hello

I am interested in building the atari punk console but was not impressed but the simple sound it made. After later research ive found that there were videos on youtube with APC and sequencers making it a great noise machine like having different sounds in sequence and you could make LEDs get light with it too.
So i was hoping if someone knew where i can find informations on this kind of projects because all i got was a 16 step sequencer and that is too big for my skills.
Any advise on this kind of stuff? Im really excited with this kind of soundmakers!

you want to use a 4017 IC. thats a cmos. part number might be CD4017 or CD4017CN or CD4017A etc.. getlofi has a kit but I dont really like a few things with how they did it. the 4017 is a decade counter. that means it will always count to 10. you can just use pin 8 as a reset pin to get 8 steps.

really good information there on how it works. I started with the APC so I could learn but I got bored with it very quick. a sequencer, LFO, or a light sensor are a few ways to make it interesting again. you can even make cascading 555's where the output of each is the power supply to the next. thats the basic idea of a APC anyway but it just uses two 555's or one 556 (dual 555). there is a youtube video of a guy with 6 555's in a row.

There loads of great noisemaker related stuff here, mostly really simple circuits and loads of fun.

Not a complete project yet but I'm thinking of adding an atari punk console.
Listen to the second vid where im using a single tone from a function generator. This I will replace with the output of the atari punk.

No schematic up yet, just an unverified vero which will be updated as I get time to work on it.
Might give you some ideas though.

well since you mentioned MFOS. how about

casperelectronics.com look for schematics, especially the drone lab
bugbrand.com  look through the old site for schematics, he does the hex inverter/hex Schmidt trigger oscillators.

check this schematic of the triwave picogenerator. you might be able to get some ideas or maybe just buy the PCB and build the whole thing.

The Atari Punk Console doesn't sound all that great by itself.  Add a delay after it and it sounds 10x better.  Sounds good with a fuzz, vibrato, chorus, flange, etc too.

I really like the Uglyface for a noisemaker.  You can get all kinds of nasty distortion out of it, plus the free oscillation that you can adjust the pitch of if you raise the threshold.  I built mine into a crybaby shell so I can control the pitch of the oscillator with the footpedal.  I set the threshold so the effect oscillates when I roll of my bass's volume knob.  Nothing like dropping that oscillator down to 40 odd hz through a huge bass rig!  This effect also works much better with a delay.
