A photo would probably help of the potentiometer.  I don't know much about the Fuzz Face but it looks like the fuzz dial needs the middle going to ground through a 20uf capacitor with one of the legs going directly to ground and the other connected to a transistor and a 100k resistor.  Is it a PCB kit?  Perfboard?  Stripboard?  Breadboard?  Might need to cut some traces or something.
I made the transistor angry.

From the small info you've given, it is most likely a mis-wiring. A lower possibility is a bad pot.

If you'd like a more detailed & educated guess, then:

thanks for the replies, some more info on the build... pnp with ac128's(tested and working well), pcb is issue 1 board from pigeonfx, 33k, 470ohm, 8k2 and 100k carbon comp resistors, 22uf, 2.2uf and 0.01 caps. 500k log volume pot and 1k lin fuzz pot(thought it might be the pot so changed it and no difference)

this is the layout i used.
tested the connections to the fuzz pot which seem to be ok.

i don't seem to be able to attach pictures

The source for this page says the url you put in was http:// and that's it.  Try (replacing the circular brackets with square ones) (url)www.url.of/my.image(/url)

tom , your photos or gifs or whatever need to be remotely hosted. grab the image url and put [ img ] before the tag and [ /img ] after it.  (leave out the spaces) or use the 'image' tool above, put the http in between brackets.
