personally I would hit it with the DA (I play with autobody as well) but if your going to use a chemical stripper scuff it up with a little sandpaper then use the stripper. It helps it soak in deeper.

Also you can take off more than you think by hand with 60 grit then just go up to 80 then 120 to smooth it pack out.

ALSO for future reference primer is your friend....use it PERIOD. It makes your paint jobs look waaaaaaaay better  ;)

Thanks for all the info. I just wish I had a steady hand for the painting part. I will post an end result as soon as it's finished

you dont need that steady or a hand for painting......

autobody tip of the day......dont try to paint in rows (like your mowing the yard), you want to keep a little distance and paint in different directions. I like to use diagonal lines and then come back in the opposite direction...... go like this \\\\\\\\\ and then come back over it like this //////////...........everyone develops their own method over time, I like to apply several thin coats in one setting to add up to a normal coat(ALOT more forgiving) but a friend of mine likes to paint super thick in one pass. His does come out a little better looking than mine but its alot riskier as far as runs go.

If your doing metallics you almost have to use my technique (my friend only paints solid colors so he can get away with his method).
