fix it or scavenge it?

I have a quandry, I own a crate gx15r ss amp. It blew the poweramp chip which I replaced and 1or 2 other small things also replaced, But the power transformer also blew. The problem being that i can't find a spec exact replacement it is a bipolar 15v +&- transformer. Should i just strip it for useful components? even if i could find a transformer what are the odds of other parts failing? and is it even worth it? I a;lready have other amps, its just i kinda liked that one.

I just threw out a +/-15V Trasformer from a solid state amp! Didn't think anyone would want it, how annoying.

Well... is the amp worth it to you? A transformer is gunna be atleast $20 i'd have though... what did the amp cost and did it do the job you wanted.

Have you tried e-mailing Crate about a replacement? They might be able to help you out.

Probably not much worth salvaging i'd have thought... a few dollars worth of parts, the enclosure and speaker, so you may as well either fix it, bin it or build a new amp in there.

Since you could probably replace that amp for $40-$50, I'd use it as an excuse to build something of your own using the existing chassis, cab, and speaker. Throw a Firefly in there, or a Ruby. When in doubt, do something custom!

By bipolar do you mean it has two 15V ac outputs?  

I just found a little toroidal here that is primary 115-230v and a secondary 2x9v you can have if you think it will work.

This will work right here and is 10 euro. I have bought a similar one here with less current to replace the power supply for my wife's tiny Behringer desk.  Shipping is cheap and they have lots of cheap capacitors too.

yes chris a positive 15 volts and a negative 15 volts, i am using a ruby with the cab and speaker now. I wa s thinking scavenge any good chips like the tlo74 and the jacks and pots. Guess i will scavenge it and chuck the rest lol. I only paid like $30 for it on evilbay.

I got it from a friend who has lots of them.
