I have this DOD FX53 overdrive , its an older one , but they say with some love , they can sound very good etc

A very common complaint with these units is that they are very "Loose " or " muddy " with the low end , and
after playing this pedal for about 2 mins. one would have to agree .....just way to much bass it seems ...

Does anyone have a fix for this unit , or any tips to help tighten this unit up ????

Any help would be much appreciated  :icon_cry:

Thank you !

This pedal is used mostly as an Overdrive , and not for its Distortion characteristics ....

there are 2 sets of clipping diodes, one in the fb loop 'tube screamer' style...
then 2 to ground 'dist +' style... you can lift one pair or the other for an alternative easily enough...
i installed a spst 'center off' switch to switch from 'ts style' 'no diodes' and 'd+tyle"
the no diodes is a boost with no distortion really, maybee a mid boost is a better description...
if you want 'ts' type- lift the 2 diodes to ground (near c6)
if you want d+ type dist lift the 2 diodes in the feedback loop (near c3)
it wont sound 'just like' either a ts or dist+ but itll be in the same veign...

In the last few hrs i performed a few of the mods mentioned in the above links , and its made a huge difference !
its now a usable Overdrive that sounds not half bad !!

i subbed in a 1n34a + 1n4001
and a 3mm LED for clippers !!

Thanks again to Quackzed !!!

its a kinda bad sounding pedal that can be found pretty cheap, ive seen a bunch...
but its a good platform for modding, there are a few different directions you can take it without alot of effort.
it just needs a bit of help to get it there.
so if you find one on the cheap they can be made to sound pretty good!  :icon_wink:
