Hello. Long time since I built my last stompbox. I've been busy, but I visit the forum from time to time to see what's happening.

I have a friend that is a great guitar player. He loves to play blues, and his favorite guitar player is SRV. I was thinking about to build him an overdrive, and maybe a booster or another overdrive at the same enclosure, so he can play rhythm and leads using the same stompbox. But since I'm a lot outdated at effects building, I don't know what to build, so I need some suggestions to get a SRV-ish tone, and a booster or another overdrive to give that extra kick for leads.

Also, his main guitar is a Fender and his amp is a Marshall, but I'm not sure if it's solid state or valved.

Any suggestions?

COT50 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxRLlKVKH7U   supersimple 1transistor build. replace the schotky diodes with LEDs and hang a A100k pot on the output for volume and you will have a two knobber with the ability to boost the input a little. the schematic is somewhere in this forum...

I'm building a MadBean LaVache at the moment. Believe me it is lly bluesy! Nkice and warm and if you ad the boost switch it is even more awesome because you can switch between a soft od that sounds like an amp that's breaking up and full on od. The schematic should be somewhere on the forum.

It's only want transistor, so nice and simple but awesome sounding!

(did I already nsay that it sounds awesome?  ;D)

I should build Colorsound Overdrive some day for myself. They say that all Hurriganes guitrists did use one

Thanks for the suggestions. I've listened to some soundclips of these overdrives, and liked them all. Looks like I need to breadboard all of them, to see which one I think my friend would like.

And these Electra-based ods reminds me something: I've never built an Electra :icon_redface: :icon_razz:.

hey man, I wondered what happened to you!

Interested in a simple valve build?  Then the Valvecaster is for you!  There's a 127 page (and counting) thread on it here.  It's really a simple circuit, easy to build especially if you run everything off of 12vdc wall wart.  Tons of mods on all those pages too.

Hi Munky

I would add the Fetzer Valve as a booster to a hotter TS clone as the OD.
That's what I did years ago... same as you, I used to spend  many hours around, and now only a few logins once in a while :(

Mike, I was thinking about to build me a Valvecaster some time ago, and it was one of the first effects that came in mind as a gift for this friend. But there's one problem: valves are not so easy to get here. They aren't too much expensive, but they are a little hard to find. And I'm pretty sure this friend will break the valve :icon_twisted:. I never built anything with valves, but when I get some time I will surely build it.

Keko, thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking about a Minibooster-like booster, but I will give the Fetzer a try. I didn't built a Fetzer yet :icon_redface:.
