On Fuzz Centrel, a simple mod to increase output in a few of the projects involved the change in a resistor value.  Can something similar be done with the Peppermill?  If so, which resistor should be changed?

Output impedance of last stage is too high. I'd try a source follower before the volume pot.

In my original Peppermill build, unity occurs with the Volume set a bit lower than 11:00 and Gain at minimum.  There is a significant amount of Volume pot range past that point.

Wouldn't something similar to the AMZ Mosfet booster Gain control work here as well?  That is, a cap to ground in parallel with the 1k ground resistor on Q1.  Since the intent is not to make it an automatic scream machine, something like a 220R resistor in series with a 4u7-10u cap might be useful, the idea being to provide a modestly more efficient path to ground for AC.

Yes, but I think that higher gain in Q1 would increase distortion (and maybe muddiness), not just output level.
