I have some nice split shaft knobs I want to use for a build. But some of the pots I'll be using have solid shafts!

What to do?

Any tips?

Do you have the same style of pots with split shafts?  Maybe a wiper/shaft swap is possible.  It will depend on how the pot is constructed.

If you have to retrofit the knobs to fit the solid shaft pots, I see only one reasonable option, drill out the knobs and add a set screw.  Depending on the material of the knob and how it's constructed this may be very easy or nearly impossible.  The same can be said for the tools available to you and your ability to use them (no insult, but a great tool is worthless if you don't know how to use it) So to help further, what is the material of the knob, and how is it constructed?  Meaning, is it a basically hollow knob with a small plastic insert or is it a solid piece of plastic with the ribbing for the knurled knob in it, or some combination there of.  Pics of the underside of the knob would be good.  Also a point of consideration, if you don't have tools to do this on hand, you may spend more on tools than new pots, but that is a big "it depends" because I understand that sometimes you just have to work with the deck of cards you have.

Salut Al,

Can you maybe ream them smooth, then drill and tap for 3mm set screws? All depends how much meat you have on the knob though  :icon_mrgreen:.

Or, get some right ones, and save those for another occassion. Sometimes, it's just more trouble than it's worth.

Dino

EDIT: Just came across this thread; http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=95402.0 . Maybe they have set screw inserts as well? Bore out yours, and epoxy in an insert? I would email the guy to find out. He's in Canada too.
