so i have hardwired many pedals to a 9v 2mm plug when they only have an option for a battery.  I traded a modded bf-2 for a vintage ehx dr q today, and noticed it has the weird 9v plug that looks like a headphone jack.  I wanted to rewire it so i can use my 1spot, but upon opening it up i found it very strange.  the 9v wire from the jack goes straight to the 9v wire on the battery battery clip, the ground goes to the pcb, and the ground on the battery clip goes to the input jack.  How would i go about removing the battery clip, or would i just leave everything as is and put the normal 9v plug in it?

here is a pic:

the battery ground to Jack allow the battery to drain only when a cable is plugged in.  So you could put a new jack and it would work the same.

i just dont understand where the +9v goes from the power jack?  just to the battery clip and then the 1/4" jack?  where is the pcb getting its 9v from?

thinking about modding this a little to make it more up to date.... 2mm 9v plug, true bypass with led, and changing the bass switch to a 3pdt toggle and putting an led on that as well.  then moving the in/out jacks to the side so it goes cleaner on my pedal board.

THAT DC switching is MODERN .

I assumed it was a + ground case.. So does the power jack show connection to the case?

i dont think it is a positive ground case because the 9v jacks tip is isolated from the case and wired to the battery, where the ground is wired to the sleeve, grounded by the case, and wired to the sleeve on the input jack.

what is the red wire behind the CKT board?

did you check those connections for continuity or just visually?  Maybe the tip is really what goes to the PCB and the wire that goes to the battery is lifted when the plug is inserted?

You did mean you received a Dr a by giving away a bf2,  right?  I always misunderstand when people say trade x for y,  gets me every time in settlers of catan.

yes, i traded my slightly modded bf2 for this vintage stock dr q.  checking things for continuity tomorrow when i am sober.  ripping it completely out of the enclosure.

ok, updating.  i stuck a glasses screwdriver into the 9v plug and discovered it is switching.  when there is no plug, the red 9v wire connects to the black wire to the pcb.  when the plus is inserted, the 9v tip goes to the pcb.  i am assuming this because without the plug, the 9v battery wire has continuity to the black wire on the pcb.

basically, i figured out to to wire it for a normal 9v plug.

now, how can i figure out what the wires are at the stomp switch.  i can't read that schematic as it is too blurry, and im not too good with the jacks on schematics anyways.  i am assuming it is like a normal wah, in that it has a clean out, effect out, and effect in.  i assume i am going to have to add a clean input wire to make the pedal true bypass.

help please, i wanna get this re-housed tonight!

edit:

when rewiring the bass switch that was very tempermental, i found a problem.  i am assuming it does connects the pads vertically, and not horizontally.  the holes are perpendicular from how they are on a modern toggle, but i am making sure it still has the same switching pattern.
