Adding diode to groung in TS: sound good?

Someone have done that before ? 
The idea is to go from TS sound (overdrive) up to distortion (MXR D+ like) with a switch. 
I'm thinking of adding the diodes to ground just before the TS tone stack (isolated with capacitor somehow?).

Unless the diode/s to ground have a lower forward voltage than the original ones in the feedback path, there may be little audible effect of adding what you planned to add.  Remember, that those diodes in the feedback path hold the clipping stage's utput to whatever their forward voltage is, so unless the added diodes either clip/conduct audibly faster than the ones in the clipping stage, or at a lower threshold, you won't hear any difference.  Si un arbre tombe dans le forêt......

If, let's say, you stuck a 2+2 diode combination in the feedback path so that the output of the clipping stage was hotter, and placed a 1+1 pair of 1N4148/1N914 in parallel with the .22uf cap to ground, THEN the extra diodes would produce an effect you could hear.  Whether it would be pretty is another thing, but being able to hear it makes deciding if you like it all that much easier.

Thanks, I get it. So it could work if, while switching in the diode to ground, I also disconnect the diode in the feedback loop. This would be like cutting the whole forest in order to ear the lonely falling tree.

As a practical application of Marks comment, you would need to use 2 GE 1N34a diodes for much effect, unless you disconnected the diodes in the feedback loop.  There are many possible switching applications.   :icon_rolleyes: 

Stick some LED's in the feedback loop and 2 SI's to ground.  ;)

WG is correct.  As long as whatever comes from the first op-amp stage is hotter than the forward voltage of whatever diode complement/type you connect to ground, you're good to go.
