EHX Q-Tron+ sounds like a fuzz

Hey guys, I recently borrowed a EXH (big box) Q-Tron+ from a friend of mine. I was getting ready to use it at the gig last night but when I engaged the effect all I got was a slight fuzz tone from the unit. I kinda reminded me of a weird fuzz factory type setting with a heavy gate on it. I thought maybe it was a cable or something but that wasn't it. I don't have to much experience with filter circuits but I'm hoping you guys could she some light on the situation and hopefully it's an easy fix. Thanks

follow all the usual troubleshooting tips from the FAQ here. your symptom could be caused by lots of things.

did modulating the knobs change the sound? i know those units have a boost function, is that increasing the vol?

for what it's worth, i owned one of these for a while and i really liked it. EH stuff just as that 'lively ' quality.
