I bought a 3 pin on/off switch and trying to solder it but I can't find the right way to do it...
I did that same to a resistor and it works pretty fine.
If I 'clip' the positive side of the diode it works pretty fine!  But when I try it w/ the switch, there is just no sound coming out  :icon_sad:
The switch only works in the 'on' mode..

I'm trying to mod my Proco Rat.
Sorry if I'm in the wrong area or if I used any wrong term! I'm new around here and in electronics   :icon_redface:

The best way is to use a multimeter and just look for continuity of your switch.

The diode is connected to ground?
If so, you need to have one diode pin connected to the circuit, the other end connected to a pin at the extremity of the switch. The middle pin of the switch is connected to ground. In one position, the switch will connect the diode to ground while in the other position, it won't. The opposite can also work. Ground to an extremity and diode to middle pin.

good luck

Sorry, but what exactly is the ground in this case? Direct to The board? Sorry I don't know that, but I m really new with electronics :icon_mrgreen:

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Do you want to bypass both diodes or only one to get some asymetrical clipping?
Can you draw a diagram of the way you wired the switch?

RatBrat

I want to bypass only one. I connected the positive lead of the diode in the board, and the negative lead on one of the external pins. Than i have connected the middle pin to the place where the negative lead should be.

When I clip the negative lead only (without the switch) a get the overdrive kind of sound that I want. But I want to use the rat normally too (in shows etc), so that's why I want the switch.

(I did ruetz already, using a switch and it's working, but I'll do the full ruetz and put the 1k pot.

BTW if I use a 5k pot I'll mess up the sound?

Vince_b

The way you said you've done it should works, I don't know why it doesn't...
I don't get how you can have no sound coming out when you use the switch.

For the 5k pot I don't know but try it, you will see if it works.

Perhaps the switch don't support... Dunno
But it works in the on position, just stops when I jump the diode...

No chance to get a fried circuit with the pot issue? Lol
