Is there a trick to getting fat Schottky diode legs into vero board?

Have some 1N5821 Schottky Rectifiers I bought on a whim to play with but they have much fatter legs than my previous diode orders.  Is there a trick to getting these into vero?  I tried enlarging the hole but it appears to destroy the entire piece of track when you make it wide enough.

Drill the hole out a bit or use an exacto-knife... Or you can solder them to the solder side of the vero board, kinda like surface mount...
Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!

or, make a few turns around the leads with thinner solid wire or resistor offcuts, close to the component, solder to hold them, trim off fat excess leads and then use.

easier though is get thin sharp drillbit and just carefully open the hole up a little.

If you use a drill bit, try twisting the bit using just your fingers instead of putting it in the drill chuck. I've drilled some delicate things before just by hand.
