The lowpass filter is being bypassed it looks like.

This really is not a complete/stable circuit.
Id expect the results/output to vary a lot based on transistor choice, voltage levels, etc.

i have used this to record ' lofi' sounding guitar parts today.. really does the job well.. considering the low parts count... sounds really twangy.. and if thats what you need..
im not really expecting applause for the amazing design.. its what got the job done.. ;)

not too different from the 'muffmaster'... if it is indeed un-stable with different trannies you could probably add r1 and r4 or similar as shown...

nothing says forever like a solid block of liquid nails!!!

No low-pass. That's just the way it is drawn. This would be more "conventional":
