In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

This forum must be stressing his server - I am getting 1998-style download speeds on this relatively small file. Perhaps it's intentional - if you don't have the patience to wait an hour for a 5mb file, then you probably don't have the patience to achieve the level of construction quality that this document is (I assume) proposing.

It was slow. I just put the download in the background and let it cook instead of waiting for it to pop up in a browser.

Collins Radio is the old-school, tubes-era maker of military and aerospace radio gear.

Cool, this will be a good read.  :icon_cool:

EDIT: Glancing through it, it looks a like a lot of it is just not-so-common common sense.

I can recommend a book called "Electronic Construction Practices" by Robert Lewis W8MQU.  Amateur radio has had all the problems of stompboxes and a lot more (how often do we do tuned circuits?) and there is a lot of know-how available.  The Radio Amateur's Handbook is also a good source of project articles that illustrate good construction techniques.

I keep a copy of IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies on my work desk. Fantastic resource, although it goes much deeper into SMT then most people here would need.

"The manuals scans are on a friend's webserver, at the end of a cable modem, so these files will take several minutes to download--please be patient!"

If like my cable connection, his upload speed (your download speed) is a hair above the best voice-line modems.
