Rebote 2.5: PT2399 chip - rate LED?

Can anyone advise if its possible to add a rate LED to the PT2399 chip for Tonepad's delay pedal Rebote 2.5?
I'm looking for similar effect as the 'heartbeat' LED mod on the small clone chorus circuit, taking a flyer off one of the legs of the IC chip

Maybe you could use a transistor in the wet output of the chip. something like R.G. Keen uses in his electronic bypass article:

thx for the link, i think that level of complication is out of my radar at the moment, i was hoping for a simple flyer off a leg but appreciate the info.
