My ICs arrived today and I'm happy to report that both are genuine!  I think the fake MN3005 on eBay thing has been blown way out of proportion, sure there are fakes out there but as I said earlier I've bought 15+ from a variety of sellers and only 2 have been fake.
I'd say you're just insanely lucky! It's not been blown out of proportion, i've watched manyyyyy people be scammed.
+1 for insane luck... ;)

I cannot comment on how lucky you are however, I can say I am glad that you were not ripped off and I hope you put those 3005s to good use!  ;)

Thank you for finding the seller!

No problem!  ;)

Although, judging from some of the comments here, I don't know if people are going to be beating down the seller's door too soon.  :-\

That's still not a horrible price.  There is another guy selling them for $35, and getting buyers.  I bought 4 from Polida, 1 was bad and he agreed to replace it.  I'll know for sure this week if he replaced it with a good one.

Then there is bascoomart selling them $12.89 shipped.  The 2 buyers that left feedback said they were good.  I've heard good things about eBay buyer protection, but have never had to use it.  Assuming it works as advertised, the main risk is time and aggravation.

Chi-boy thats good to know.

I think I'll try bascoomart and I'll learn about buyer protection.

Yes, $19 is not that bad.

Sent bascoomart a question regarding the legitimity of the chip (the item is listed as "Panasoni") and got this:

Dear,
I feel so sorry and can't give you the any brand, but this item not the original one.
Best regards,

Dont know if they are indeed fake or if their english is so bad that they goofed all the words.  :P

Couldn't resist temptation.  Bought 4 MN3005 from this seller.

They came in today and all 4 tested out as MN3008's.  Now for the aggravation of returning or getting a refund or something.  Oh well....

Hey gena_P1...

Have you tested these MN3005s? Are they authentic?

Willing to part with a few?  ;D

I ordered an MN3005 from him but he wrote back I should pay another 3.50 for him to register the package at the post office, otherwise he would cancel the transaction. Sounds very fishy to me, as he put "free shipping" into the description and doesn't give me a choice. Did he do the same to you and did you pay?

If they are real, I would gladly pay 3.50 more, but everything about this guy seems fishy.

gena_p1

I got mn3005 from ebay and cleaned mark with tooth brush and acetone (it was not laser labeling).
But chip was tested as mn3005 (I compared mn3007, mn3008, mn3005, mn3006 and mn3009 in small clone chorus, and did pcb convertor for 3007 to 3005/3008).
So, I don't know what to think... Next step is to put it in DMM, but I'm too lazy to disassemble DMM for one chip.
