How do you wire a pot and an SPDT switch in parallel?

I'm trying to build a DIY pedal to be used with the Volume Boost jack on my Randall RM50.  I've read about people wiring up a standard footswitch and pot in parallel in order to do this.  How would that wiring go?

The tip and sleeve of the jack are connected to lugs 1 & 2 of the pot. The switch is used to short lugs 1 & 2 which turns the boost off - an SPST will suffice.  The pot controls the amount of boost - a 250K or 500K should be fine - higher if you want more boost.  If you want a status LED, use the opposite side of a DPDT to ground the LED/resistor combo, and use a stereo jack with the <edit> sleeve ring </edit> connected to the battery -ve terminal.  At least I think that's how it's done.
