So I installed a IC socket and new chip on my TS-9, went to test it and I am getting almost no volume out of the pedal and sometimes my speakers will get overloaded and make a *farting* noise.  (sorry I don't have a better way to describe it, almost like the speaker is blown or has too much resistance maybe?)  I took it apart and started poking around with a multimeter.  7 of the 8 legs on the IC chip have voltage readings.  The one exception is on pin # 5, which is attached to the tone circuit.  I also have 0 voltage values on the the 220 ohm resistor that is attached to the .22uf cap.

I'm pretty sure my problem is with either c5, c9 from this diagram

or in the tone section of this one

The two .22uf will read voltages on the pins not touching the 220 ohm resistor inbetween the two.  I replaced the resistor and one of the caps (the ones next to pin # 5) and still nothing.  Please help.

Ok, I suppose you have the IC in the right position, right?.
I think you have to check the solderings in the socket, It´s probably a bad solder, or a cold solder what is causing the low volume or the "farting" noise.

I wish you luck !

The IC is in the right position.  I am one who would normally f that kind of thing up so I checked thoroughly.  I'm going to solder that connection again and see if anything changes.  I also found this http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=848266 which deals with all of the parts I am having trouble with (it's those two blue caps and the resistor between them) but there is no page 2 that tells you what to do after removing them.

The blue caps, are tantalum caps (polarized), change them by polyester caps.

Ok, I resoldered pin # 5 and the one leg of both the .22uf cap and 220 ohm resistor that are all attached to each other.  I am still getting no voltage readings from any of these three.  Also I had previously replaced this cap with a poly one, should I do the other one now?  I am trying to avoid replacing a bunch of components before I figure out where the problem is and I get myself into a situation where I gotta call Mike.

I agree with you, don´t change anything else. Those caps and resistor affects the tone, and it don´t represent a problem. What I would do now, is to check all the wiring looking for a disconection or something that can affect the way of the signal.

I replaced the other .22uf cap, against my own wishes.   I now have a full functioning pedal but the battery does not work.  In addition there is a bit of a volume drop when the pedal is plugged in vs. the guitar going straight to the amp.

What a relief when everything is sounding again...  :icon_wink:

About the volume drop, must be because the pedal is not "truebypass", you can add this issue to your list of mods.
