Hi friends, a request for you to quickly check the correctness of my planned Morley wah pedal mod.

The problem:
The wah pedal has a level control, but its range -in my perception- is from, say, 125% bypassed volume, to 300% bypassed volume. These numbers may be off mark, but you get the point. There is no way to set the effect to unity gain. When I engage the pedal in a band setting, I always have to roll back the guitar volume to make up for the unwanted boost. The pedal's volume pot is set to 1 (minimum) all the time as this gives me the least amount of unwanted boost.

The schematic:

The planned mod:
I would like the level control to go from substantially below bypassed volume with the pot at 1, to unity gain with the pot around 5, to well above bypassed volume with the pot at 10. That way, I could set it to somewhere around perceived unity gain.
Could this be accomplished by a mod as simple as replacing R8 (the resistance between level pot lug and ground) from 3.3K to e.g. 1K?

Thanks guys, your advice is much appreciated.
Circular logic is best, because it's circular.

First try clipping a 1k resistor in parallel w/the 3k3 at the output. Hear what happens and report back.  :icon_cool:

Good call. So obvious in hindsight, but I seriously hadn't even considered trying it out before heating up the soldering iron. Where is that face-palm smiley when you need it...

Anyway, I tried it as you suggested, and putting the 1K in parallel did much good. Then tried it without any resistor as well (i.e., putting a jumper across R8) and decided this is actually perfect. The control now goes from dead quiet to pretty much the original top of the range (very loud) and has become much more useful as a result.

I wonder why Morley chose to design the level control to go from quite loud to very loud originally... Granted, those loud settings work well if you're going for soaring overdriven wah leads. The massive level going into e.g. a tubescreamer gives you great sustain. But, having the minimum level so high makes clean funky wah stuff pretty much impossible if your amp is anywhere near breakup. Using the wah unmodded always made the sound loud and overdriven, even when I was going for 'clean' stuff (clean as in filtered but not clipped).

I'm quite pleased with this little mod, and it has to be one of the simplest mods ever.
