fuzz signal takes a second to kick in after hitting the stomp switch

What could account for the delayed sound coming out of my fuzz after I hit the stompswitch?  It passes the signal perfectly when bypassed, but when I hit the switch, it takes a little over a second before the fuzzed sound comes in...and in that time there's no signal at all come out of the circuit into the amp.

It sounds like there is a problem with how the power is wired.  Take a look at the stomp switch and make sure you are not disconnecting the power to the board when bypassed.  In other words, when it is bypassed, the power pad on the board should still be at 9v.

It takes a few seconds for the caps to charge up when you first apply power, during that time the board won't do anything.

That's where I would start looking anyway.
