Hi folks,

I have found some old 3pdt stomp switches in my drawer but unfortunately one of the lugs on each switch looks damaged: The plastic goop that seals them into the housing has come away and the lug itself seems to have moved. Will this mean that they won't work any more or could I still use them as part of a project? They ain't cheap so it'd be a shame to throw them away.

Here's a pic of each one,

Well... first of all. Grab a multimeter and check it!!  ;D

If it is JUST that lug that is inoperable, but the others work fine... you can still use it. ABSOLUTELY!  ;)

Use the 2 fully functional pole sets for your Input and Ouput true bypassing and use the pole with the "broken" lug to control the LED  ;)

*** Just make sure there are no unwanted shorts on ANY of the poles***

Cheers dude,

I gave 'em both the once over with the multimeter and the one with the problem lug at the top right (lug 7) as shown in the top link was fine.
The switch in the other link with the central lug (lug 5) being the problem unfortunately didn't have connectivity between lugs 5 and 6 in either position, and then the latching mechanism stopped working altogether so that one's gone to gadget heaven now by the looks of it.

Think I'll take your advice and use the working one for a switch with an LED ;-)

Also, if you have continuity and want to reinforce the lug, you can use a dab of JB Weld epoxy. Just make sure to clean any flux or other goop out of the area that you're going to epoxy with some alcohol and a tooth brush and let it dry before applying the epoxy.
