Anyone mod a Roland GP-8?

I recently was thinking about the old Roland rack multi-effect from the late 80s, the GP-8. It was unique because it was a programmable effect unit, but had analog distortion, overdrive, compression and filter. The parameters of these were digitally programmable.

So I thought about it. If the distortion and overdrive are likely a DS-1 and SD-1 circuit, how possible would it be to alter these circuits to your liking, still keeping the digitally-controlled "potentiometers"?

Any thoughts?
