"Shim Verb" type effect

Hey everyone,

Heard this type of effect a few times now and i really like the 'angelic' shimmering reverb sound it produces.  The Timeline 2 has an option like this as well.  I think they call it plate reverb on the timeline 2.

Are their any DIY projects that could get this sort of sound?  The mooer is 85 bucks, so maybe its not even worth it?

Wow, very nice sounding. I would be interested in making something like that. It sounds to me some like the high end is being fed back into the delay.

I was watching Kids in the Hall on netflix earlier today and the intro song has a guitar that sounds very similar to this effect. Weird part is I was wondering if this was doable in pedal form...

search for "U2 The Edge Shimmer" etc for more info about that kind of sounds. Instead of the Moer pedal, I'd suggest to buy a used Line6 Verbzilla - more bang for the buck...

For a really good shimmer sound you should split your signal at the input of your pedalboard and connect the Verbzilla to a second amp via a volume pedal (I place it before the Verbzilla).

Hey, Paul, a Belton Brick can't do that "choir" sound -- it's a complicate sound, digitally pitch shifted an octave above -- but it CAN do something that sounds a little like a shimmer on longer decays. Grindcustoms has a board for Culture Jam's reverb that can go infinite. I haven't built it yet, but I'm pretty sure it'll get something at least similar to this.

The only other thing I can think of really in DIY land would be to add a chorus effect in the same feedback loop. Anyway, here's the schematic for that:

It's the only DSP I can think of that's remotely doable by most bootique builders. Any other DSP would be a couple levels harder to work with.

yep pretty much the same as ive been messing with, except i modded the tone otherwise its very bright compared to bypass , but i also added a normal/bright switch in there too.

the 22k in the feedback will allow really long decay that shimmers, much more than the brick spec 2.8secs......and into self oscillation too...(i used 33k for more of a standard non osc reverb, and a 10k pot for better control)

and a few other tweaks to my liking..

I think its the octave above (or 1/5th or whatever it is) that i like about  the shimmer verb, which i've since discovered is an 'algorithm' So yeah its DSP.

I'm going to look into the belton reverb for a reverb pedal, i think the shimmer verb is going to be a purchase (strymon bluesky or timeline).

For the price the mooer sounds pretty dam good!  Unfortunately though i went and watched a comparison between the mooer and the bluesky.  I like the higher octave of the bluesky (i think the guy said 1/8th)  Depends on your budget though.  If its an effect your not going to use much, id go with the mooer.  I play alot of ambient delay / swells etc so for me its probably worth the extra 4x the price.  either way its going to be a bday purcahse

They don't. I'm thinking Freescale perhaps? I have the Pitch Box, and the DSP chip is waay bigger than the FV-1. But it's sandwiched between two pcbs, so it's hard to tell.
Also I would not catagorize Mooer as "boutique"

I wont get into a debate about what defines a guitar pedal as 'boutique', but on a side note let me just say, when i used my friends shimverb, the quality was pretty average.  No tension on the jacks whatsoever, you could almost shake the cable's out.  Light in construction.  The whole package felt 'cheap'.  But hey, it was 80 bucks.  For the price i thought it was definitely worth the money.  Like i said early though, it would be an effect that i would use alot and i have my sights set on the bluesky for a bday present.
