@ Jimi: true. I must admit I wasn't impressed with the Vamp when somebody brought it in to record with, but that may well have been his program it.
I do love my POD. Steven Wilson apparently uses it extensively on his recordings, and this man knows serious tone. One of the best mix/producers out there.

it all comes down to getting familiar with it, mike.
i use a free program from behringer to "deep program" mine. the big thing is you have to use your ears. digital processors don't work the same as analog ones do, it's almost more like programming a VST than twistin dials on an amp.

used properly, you can get some great things out of 'em. my biggest issues with the v-amp are the latency...a very noticeable (to me) 5ms or so from note to speaker, and the fact that you really can't get tone right out of 'em unless they're pretty cranked.

but they work great for what they are. not a big fan of line 6, but then, i haven't spent much time with them...actually, ANY time with them.  :D
