Help with valentines day gift.

I know this isn't exactly a stomp box but I would like to use some of the common components I have.

I want to do something like a typical "I <3 You" and put it in an enclosure with a switch.

Maybe use a 555 timer to make the words light up at different intervals, if that's possible

You guys have any ideas or good resources?

I want it to be pretty basic, not planning on getting into microcontrollers or similar.

A 555 & 4017 could be rigged to make a few (ten I think, think it's a decade counter) of the LEDs flash at different times, a simple dual opamp triangle LFO could be good for the heart LEDs to make it look a bit like it's beating.

ultra simple 3 or 6 led chaser....put the leds under the words...voila'.

diffuse the leds to spread the light better by just lightly sanding the leds...scuff em up a bit..

breadboard it, and play with values...put a trim from 9v to adjust speed/brightness.

I have a nice heart shaped metal enclosure that I'd let go for cheap that would be perfect for this project!  Let me know if you're interested.

What would be the simplest way to power roughly 22 leds with nearly full brightness using a 9v adapter
