Did this to a 90's RAT no led that i had.....I dunno if i dug it, got less bright, and it seems a little more farty at 9 o'clock
Anyone else NOT like this?? Most reviews people seem to go fking gaga over it.

i think it sounds great with a turbo rat or, the way i mod mine - hybrid (one led, one diode for clipping)...but on a stock rat i find it pretty lackluster. it gets too mushy unless you have at least one led there for clipping. the led adds the midrange and ballsy factor that make the ruetz mod a perfect solution if you're looking for a cool overdrive.

i am going to be doing one soon , i have the chassis al l ready to go with 4 pot holes , i could add a swtch too .

i like the idea of having more than one clipping option .

what type of diode / led combo or any other ideas that work well for this in the rat ?
im learning , we'll thats what i keep telling myself

i salvaged a red and green led from an old PC, can i replace the 47 ohm, with the red led?? Would that at least sound better that the Ruetz mod where you just clip it?? Or do i just solder the damn 47 thing back and call it a day

Err... I think there's a little confusion going on here.  The Ruetz mod and the diode mods (LED Turbo rat, silicon rat, etc.) are not related. To the OP - no you can't replace the 47 with an LED (at least I don't think you can, or it won't do anything).  I'm not a fan of the Ruetz mod either.  People who like it seem to be after a different heavier sound than what a RAT normally provides.  If your looking for a bass boost (the stated purpose of the Ruetz mod) without the mud, try this instead: http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php/v/diyuser/GGBB/RATBassBoost.gif.html?g2_imageViewsIndex=1

yeah the chassis has four holes , i saw the rutz mod , and considered implimenting this  , and using that fourth hole for the " lube " pot in the rutz  mod .  but now i am thinking it might not be the best use of that 4th hole . so instead i would put a switch in and have a second  diode clipper , but perhaps that may make the rutz mod more impressive ...

i can and will research what folk have used as alternative diode clippers in a rat . i was thinking perhaps someone had stumbled upon a diode clipping combo that is unusual or unique and would like to share . my apologies for not being clear . i am just going to experiment with it when its populated .
