hi,

I'm building the tonepad FSH. I finished it and I tested it but it sounds very bad.... Tone and volume fades away, really does not sound like it should.

I adjusted the trims as well as possible but the pedal still does not sound good. here is a demo on youtube:

I think the pedal sounds bad because I do not use exactly the same transistors (BF245A)(these transistors are not in Chile, South America) and / or because I used a OAMPS that are not correct and / or IC LM13600 for this case is very different to LM13700.

here is the detail of all:

   original Tonepad:      I put this:
Q2   BF245A                       2N5457
Q5   BF245A                       2N5457
Q6   BF245A                       2N5457

IC1   LM13600                      LM13700
IC2   DUAL OAMP              TL082
IC3   DUAL OAMP              TL082

why the pedal sound bad? What do you think? is what I put up?

I need your help friends for my pedal can sound good.

thank you very much!

I forgot to say that all the other components are the same as the diagram tonepad.    ;)

Hard to tell, but sounds normal to me.  The fsh does ALL SORTS of crazy sounds.  You have to sit with it and spend some time to get to know it.  Candles.  Dinner.  Invite it back to your house for some 'coffee'. You know, that sort of thing.

If your still stuck check out my vid on how I got mine to work, voltages at the end of the video.  Like I said though, sounds like its working fine. (your in filter mode by the way, there are 2 modes, filter and sample and hold).

Good Luck

Paul, thank you very much for answering!!!!!

I know that the pedal was designed to sound weird, but the pedal has little tone when is powered and the general volume drops when I turn on the pedal.

In addition the pedal does not respond well to dynamic as does your FSH.

I think a good starting point for my pedal can sound good is to have the same components as you, I mean the transistors and ICs.

What do you think?

can you help me a little? please?

THANKS PAUL!!!

Hey Pancho.

I'm impressed you got ANYTHING out of it with those transistors :) I tried for hours to no avail.

As soon as I plugged in that combo (mainly, the j201's from memory) it came alive!  Just remember, if you've built it with the 5 knobs, it can take some dialing in to get a good sound.  that said, almost any setting will produce some weird-ass noise or glitch :D  Finding a proper auto-wah can be a challenge though!

Check my voltages at the end of that video against yours and make sure there not miles off or something looks amiss.

Paul,

I really like your pedal sounds :icon_biggrin: , really much more than my pedal sounds  :P.

can you tell me what transistors did you use?

thanks a lot Paul!!!

Hey man, I cant remember off hand, I know I used j201's for the fets, but check that video I linked to above, im sure I mention it in there.

excellent! thank you very much!!!

remember you what DUAL Oamps did you used?

chromesphere

Hey man, Opened up my FSH for ya.  The op amps are 4558's.  Probably had a bunch of them in bulk and just wacked them in.  Don't remember what tonepads BOM suggests.
