I was bread boarding the Brian May treble booster and loved it, I also loved it with more of a full range boost when I put a higher value input cap in the circuit.  I wanted to simply put a toggle switch to select the classic treble boost with the lower cap and the full boost with a higher cap.  Can I simply add a switch?

aron

Yes. Make the switch put another larger capacitor in parallel with the smaller input cap.  Switch it in and out.

Ok thanks... I'll give that a try.

So would the switch essentially be used to stop the signal from going through the larger cap? Or would it be used to add it? I'm a bit unclear on that.

the schematic is on page 3. it shows the location of the switch and the second input cap. notice how the bigger cap always gets the switch.

Ok great! Is there any value in using a DPDT switch to completely separate the two caps? Is there any loss of any sort as in the example of the range master due to C2 still connected to the circuit?

Jdansti

It wouldn't hurt to use a DPDT, but there is no value in it. The SPST switch effectively breaks the circuit of the add-on cap.  In other words, when the switch is open, it's as if the add-on cap doesn't exist. It will have no effect on the sound at all.

Thanks a lot for the insight guys... It sounds great.

While it's on the breadboard you might want try it with a "Joe Gagan" tone control on the front. Haven't tried it on the front of the Brian May Boost but the tone control works great on the front of a Rangemaster. Allows dialing in the full range boost all the way to all out treble, can really tailor the boost to the guitar/amp combo.

Ignore the pregain, just try it with the two caps and 100k pot.
