Has anyone done something with one of these mics?

I got the capsules from Digi-Key and the rest of the parts from Mouser. Then I did the two-wire Linkwitz mod to the capsule.

I would strongly recommend getting several capsules. They are very tiny and easy to mess up when doing the mod.

The back of the capsule is actually a tiny PCB with a ground trace running around the perimeter. However, the lip of the case covers that ground trace. You will very likely not be able to get solder to stick to the aluminum case. But you can cut out a small notch in the lip of the case, next to the drain terminal, to expose the ground trace. Then you can make a solder bridge between the drain and ground (case). Attach the wire at the same time you are making that solder bridge.

How did you know the next place I was going to order from was Digi-key? Do you recall the part info? brand or whatever. I'm pretty new at all this so their site tends to get me lost. They just have to much stuff!

Panasonic WM61A is the most commonly used one but you can glance over the data sheets for other ones (I bought some ones that are supposedly cardoid instead of omnidirectional but have yet to try them out)

> What is suguru?

Sugru. (lose the extra U.)

http://sugru.com/

sugru is the new self-setting rubber for fixing, modifying and improving your stuff. Over 216.000 people in 133 countries are using it to make their stuff work better.

sugru is the exciting new self-setting rubber that can be formed by hand. It moulds like play-dough, bonds to almost anything and turns into a strong, flexible silicone rubber overnight.Developed by a team of product designers and material scientists, sugru's patented technology is unique in its combination of hand-formability, self-adhesion and flexibility when cured. It feels like modelling clay, and it's that easy to use too. Once cured, its durable properties mean it's comfortable in extreme environments from the dishwasher to the ocean in Antarctica.
