Hi,
Today I finished building a guitar effect based on the diagram on this page:
http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/projects/26-tremolo/142-ea-tremolo.
Instead of the potentiometer:
250k linear I used a 200k linear
100k reverse log I used a 100k  linear
25k log I used a 20k log

Instead of transistors:
Q2: 2n5457 I used  2sk246. I changed the legs 1 and 2 sites (indicated on the attached diagram)
Q3: 2n5089 I used bc549 leaving unchanged position.
The other 2 are as in the diagram.

Inaction effect is manifested by the fact that you can only hear a clear sound as  without effect.

Hi
if you've got a multimeter, check for variable voltages (ie "wobbly") coming out of the low frequency oscillator (involving the 3 big caps in a ring).
Also, the JFET substitution might be an issue. a 2N5457 has a Vgs on-off of about -5V. An MPF102 is probably an OK substitute, but a J201 and similar may be too high (-1V).
cheers
