lunchbox fulla blues

cobbled this together for a friend, it's housed in a tweed fender lunchbox.
damped the lid with cardboard, and stuffed a 4" speaker in there.
i gotta thank gus, dino, petey, and rutabaga bob for this one...they all helped me figure it out.
it's basically a ruby, so props to run off groove!!
it's got a switchable "boost" section...really more of a hi mid/ treble booster with a 500k input pot labled "harmonics", into a simple treble booster based on the FAL treble booster i got a year ago.  set up the output cap(s) on a switch to choose upper mid boost or treble boost.
from there, it goes into a ruby.
i forgot the .022 input cap to the jfet... i'll update that later.
after the jfet buffer, i figured since it's a line driver, may as well add an asymetrical clipper. mostly it just adds a little more sparkle to the clean sounds especially.
had to put an effects loop in there. it's simple, but it works. used them plastic switching jacks so you can separate the preamp and power amp if ya want to.
the return feeds a "backwards" big muff tone control...it sounded better to me that way, so i went with it.
the rest of the ruby is pretty stock, other than just wiring the gain pot wiper to pin 8 and the bottom to pin one of the lm386n. the n's are louder than the more common l's or m's. volume is good.
so anyways, it works, i will have clips hopefully tomorrow for ya. it sounds very much like a fender or marshall, depending on the settings.
and it's got just about enough power to drive a 4x12.

also did a proper power supply for it, so it's got plenty of balls and very little noise.. there's a stage for the power amp, the preamp, and the boost, each stage getting more filtering. i think it worked out well.

i gotta revise the vero layout i did, but here's the schematic (minus the one .022 input cap between the 1.5m resistor and input of the jfet)



sounds great with my memory toy in the loop. nice little amp, a LOT of sounds possible. very tube like...won't say exact, but probably close enough for rocknroll if ya set it right.

yeah, the tone control had to go there, there's nothing to drive it with any earlier!!

you would not BELIEVE just how much gain i had to trim out of this circuit so it wouldn't sound like a fuzz with a blown speaker!!
lol.. knowledge gleaned from stompbox and tubes really came in handy..

too much woofy distortion? too much bass... better make the cap smaller...
