Hi All,

I could do with a 1k W taper pot but am unable to find one, therefore i was looking into changing a linear pot to w taper...

Is this even plausible?

i have read secret lifes of pots many times and have used the knowledge to modify lin's into reverse logs etc

I found this:

in the case of 1k pot would i just use a 1k pot and then use the equivalent lower resistors bridging the terminals as in the above diagram?

This pot is to be used in a voltage divider style..

Sorry for my noobness!

cheers

For the "W" taper it looks like your graph above is inverse. The W taper is actually like an elongated "S"

Look here: http://www.alphapotentiometers.net/html/taper_curves.html

Particularly, look at the Taper "B" graph. What you need is the 4B taper.

Hope that helps  ;D

Yep your right its 4b im after here:

Any ideas how to make it with tapering resistors?

Unfortunately, it is going to take some time and effort on your part to play around with tapering resistors to find it.

The time spent there is probably MORE than what you would pay to find one to purchase though  ;D

I cant find them in any of the usual places even a google search doesnt bring much up apart from the standard 20k..

In the DIY spirit im gunna give it a go..

So in the above graphs how would i switch from the top graph to the 4b graph below, larger resistors over each set of legs? So 1k potwith say 2k resistors?
