Looking to see about changing the tone control within a guitar with 2 humbuckers, 1 vol, 1 tone knob.  Took out the old tone knob which was nothing but a single cap filter and put in a Muff tone stack.  Looking to see where is the best place to put it into the circuit.  Sounds okay now, just checking to see if there is a more correct path to take when putting in a passive filter.  Guitar is passive without any batteries or boosts.

This is the diagram,

and this is a clean diagram,

It needs to be the last thing in the signal chain before the output jack, which is where you've got it.

Thanks,  just to be complete here I used this from AMZ

What are the looses like in a guitar - do you get enough output?

you should make a pedal like http://runoffgroove.com/tonemender.html rather than adding muff tone control in your guitar.... just an friendly advice

normal i would make a pedal, but i am doing a favor for someone that wants passive and inside the guitar.

the loss is not really that bad for most of the settings.  the volume is lower on the really filtered thin side, but nothing that he is unhappy with.  i figured it would be more than it is.  and these little things fit on pot, so you can put a filter and if you are unhappy, you can just replace it back with the single cap that is in most guitars.

ohhh i thought it's your guitar, if someone requested it so it's his :D

Is it fine to stick with the 100k pot?  Most guitars seem to use 500K.  Is this a loading issue?

Mick Bailey

If you use too large a pot you'll lose volume in the centre of travel. Picture the pot as having treble on one side and bass on the other. 500k would drop too much volume in the centre and also attenuate too much treble, other than at the extreme rotation towards the treble side. You could try 250k, but smaller is better in this circumstance.
