I've just wired up a pedal following this wiring diagram:

http://www.beavisaudio.com/techpages/StompboxWiring/

When I plug in the input jack, the LED stays lit even when I hit the stompswitch and the effect is disengaged.  I've followed this wiring before and never had problems, but I can't figure out what's wrong with this one.  Any suggestions?

I'd check for shorts on the pins of the switch.

If it's in a case, make sure no wires touch when you close it up.

Usually it's just a short in the ground. Since the + is connected constantly, the - completes the circuit, what happened to me was I didn't insulate the leads from the - side and it was touch the enclosure which is in a constant ground state.
