Try this, next time you have on open.
Put about a .022 cap on the drive pot wiper to the CW side of that pot (the side that goes to the next stage) and hear how it sounds with the drive at min.
The min drive setting doesn't have much use anyway, might as well make it do something.

Finally got around to trying this. Good little mod there. Thanks!

Most say they want more bass, but I don't understand that opinion.

I think it's ok for low end, it's there, it's just not massive. I don't think of marshalls having tons of low end anyway. Your mod makes the gain control similar to a JCM800, where it thins out the low end as you roll it down.

Well, we should keep in mind that what sounds good when playing alone and what may sound good when playing with a bass player or recording are two different things. In the mix, too much bass on the guitar is not good. Distorted bass even worse. So they say.

Ross, after some simulations, you really should put a 100K in series with a .022uF to make the gain not get dull at the lower end. Otherwise with just the cap, you defeat some gain range for most frequencies.
Personally, after comparing to a crunch without that mod, I think I will not add the cap anyway, but those are the values if you like the result.
