dc/dc converter power supply question

ive been thinking about building a power supply for my pedals, i've looked into geofex's spyder and seen enough warnings in big scary letters saying  how AC will kill me cos i am stupid to know i dont want to mess with AC.

with that in mind i found dc/dc converters like the xppower IU0509SA that will isolate and regulate a 4.5-9v input to 9v/222mA output.

so, if i get a cheap 5volt 1amp power supply, a few IU0509SA (or similar) and some power jacks,  do i get a nice isolated, regulated noiseless power unit?

thanks

I rekon you would be better off getting a 12V 1A plug-pack, wall wart, battery eliminator, whatever you call it, and one or more 7809 or similar 3 terminal regulators. and maybe a/some small heatsinks. these regs will supply 1 amp each, and there will be none of the switching noise of a dc-dc converter.

if you only have a few low current pedals to run, you can use 78L09's instead, at about 100mA each, I think. no heatsinks. search this site and you'll find a heap on these regulators.

thanks for that

i was hoping to isolate each supply line aswell as regulate the power with the dc converters.

will the switching noise be a real factor? specs say 100-650 kHz variable Switching Frequency

at those frequencies, it should not be a problem, but funny things are always just waiting to happen. do the specs provide a ripple voltage/load figure?
