Question about lowering gain

I liked what I heard on Youtube demo's of the Devi Ever Electric Brown. But I'm wondering if there's any way to lower the minimum gain on the pedal. My initial thought is to increase the 100k Pregain pot to 250k or something like that. Any thoughts?

The pregain pot here is actually just an input cap tilt; increasing the pot size will just kind of do funky things in the middle. If you want a true pregain, you'd have to add another pot. A voltage divider before the input cap is one way, or you can sever the ground connection on the amplifying transistor (with a cut) and stick a 1K pot from the emitter to ground in there.

This is a good sounding circuit, but I do wonder why that second MPSA18 isn't just a silicon diode.
