Hi again,

I'm looking to build a compressor for bass, and I was thinking of the DOD from GGG (http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_opcomp280a.pdf).

What mods I should make so it is suitable for bass? Is it suitable at all for bass, or there are better ones for this purpose?

Thanks a lot!

I'm not a fan of the 280 on bass. Try the Demeter Compulator or Engineer's Thumb. I prefer the Compulator for bass and Engineer's Thumb for guitar, but vice versa is great too.
Nyt brenhin gwir, gwr y mae reit idaw dywedut 'y brenhin wyf i'.

PRR

C2 >0.5uFd, C3 >0.1uFd.

But there's several other things going on which, to my thinking, make it a "flavored" limiter, maybe tasteful for guitar, maybe not so happy for other uses.

That pedal doesn't like bass at all... its difficult to explain but my brain just wants to wash it off by saying it doesn't have the bandwidth in the right places (as opposed to the commenting of frequencies and similar).

Go with one of the other suggestions with tone impacting caps doubles/trebbled (or try to find something meant for keyboards)...

DavidM

Raise value for input/output decoupling caps (C1, C3) AND also for C2.
Make C6 22uF for quicker response.

@OP:
Are you looking for a noticeable type of compression "effect" for changing your sound, or something that is more of a "tool" for smoothing out volume peaks in a transparent way that most people will not notice?

For bass, I think the DOD you are looking at will give you more of an "effect" sound, regardless of the mods that others have suggested.

I think the Demeter Compulator will smooth out volume peaks in a very polite and unnoticeable way, without changing your overall tone/sound.

Depends on what you are looking for.

So much this.

Built the Demeter Compulator and it makes my jazz bass and my Rick 4003 the same overall volume.

My Rick without it is unplayable as it causes my GK1001rb to clip like crazy I'm also very heavy handed Geddy Lee style.
It had no effect on the tone of the bas either.

It would be  first pedal I replace
