What is the name of the board without copper on which holes with or without grmmets are used and component legs are soldered together?

Pojo

I believe it's just pad-less perfboard. Although you can also use pad-per-hole perf and solder the component leads together as well to form your traces.

peterg

That was quick! Thanks Pojo. I didn't know there was padless perboard but I'm looking for board that needs to be drilled to accomodate the circuit layout - preferably in colours other than the brown perf board colour.

Pojo

Not sure of anything specific to that, but I'm sure there's something out there that could accommodate. Might want to check out hardware/craft stores for sheets of non-conductive material with the proper thickness and size, also should withstand high temps. Someone else may know of something specifically made for the task.

Joe

look for phenolic or bakelite sheet in the thickness you want

Garolite/FR4 is available in sheets, is what people use for turret/eyelet boards in tube amps usually 1/8" thick. You can get thinner and in a variety of colours. If you are in the states McMaster Carr is a great source.

I don't know what its called, but Radioshack has perfboard like boards without the solder pads.

Thanks Dave. Does anywhere closer to home carry this product and the eyelets. I'm just down the QEW from you.

Hi Peter, I'm afraid Mc-Carr can't/won't ship garolite out of the country since 9/11 so the only way i've got it from them is by having it delivered south of the border and then picking it up.

Mouser has a really good selection of various diameters of eyelets for different thicknesses of boards and with Mouser i've always done the shipping the same way, south of the border and pick up. My brother has a friend in PA he was regularly going down to see so orders went there but those trips aren't happening these days so i haven't seen an order from either in a long time.

London Power in Thunder Bay has 1/16" board, by the ugly colour it looks to be phenolic, last i looked not very cheap and you still need to get the eyelets from someplace else. They do have eyelets but they are the large ones you'd use for a tube project.

How far down the QEW, i was wondering the streets of Toronto today, or on this side of the lake?

Take care

It appears Electro Sonic (Toronto) can get Keystone eyelets within a few days of ordering. Check the Keystone datasheet to see what size you need then check with Electro Sonic to see it they can get them in, minimum order of 100.

Thanks Dave. I'm in Toronto. I'll keep searching for the sheets.

Check out A-1 just north of Sherway Gardens on North Queen on the west end of Toronto.  But check it out quick - they have been known to close for all of August to do inventory.  Another choice is Sayal.  I live south of the Sayal on Matheson, just west of Dixie Road and they generally have stuff.

peterg

Thanks Ron. I think A1 is already closed. I'll check out Sayal.

I have bought copper clad and etched it all off in previous emergencies.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
