Parts storage in a garage in Chicago?

The title says it all. I have a little workshop area in my garage where I do all of my messy work and drilling, *giggity*, but I want to extend it to housing my parts and building stompboxes. I don't have a dedicated space inside my townhouse, and I've been using shared space. I have a nice 220v heater in the garage to use when I'm out there in the winter, but I'm concerned about storing parts down there. Am I just over thinking this?

Yes and no.  There are a bunch of things that will likely go unaffected by winter in a garage, but there will likely be some things where the condensation and temperature shifts (heater on / heater off) might  monkey with them a bit.  At the same time, it may be a trivial affair to simply store them in a manner that tackles the challenge.  For example, resealable bags or even vacuum-sealed bags, boxes with filler material to insulate glass parts, or even dessicant bags to absorb any moisture that gets in from condensation.  FWIW, my garage faces similar or worse winters, is unheated, and I keep my old Fender tweeds in there.

Thanks, Mark. I figured I might be over thinking it a bit. Good call of controlling the humidity with those gel packets. I'm sure I can buy a crap ton of those on eBay for next to nothing. The company I work for tests our products for hot/cold storage, temperature extremes during transport, sweat exposure...so I figured I'd probably be ok.
