I've found a few places to buy these, but no where I would usually shop for stompbox gear. Anyone have a source for these where I can buy some other useful stuff so I'm not paying $10 to ship a $6 component?

I've had success rolling my own in the past, but the intended application is pretty picky.

You must be building a Philosopher's Tone.

Allied Electronics

They have much more useful items at pretty reasonable prices. Stock up on things that your usual supplier doesn't stock!
I just designed a new fuzz circuit! It almost sounds a little different than the last fifty fuzz circuits I designed! ;)

I was looking at Allied, I just wish I could get a quote on shipping without signing up for an account and checking out. Do you have any experience with their shipping costs?

I looked for either a hard invoice or one on my PC and came up empty.

I can say that Allied's service and shipping time is great and have had no issues with them. If I recall, their shipping charge is not as brutal as some suppliers.

I went through the VTL5C6 sourcing thing and as you know....there are not a whole lot of options. As far as "rolling your own" the 5C6 has a very slow decay and the specs are unlike any LDR available.

If it is the Philosopher's Tone that you're building....I believe that the gain section was engineered around that particular Vactrol.
