Since there are several reported places and items that a BBD can be salvaged from (TVs, radios, etc) I think this is a good place for those lucky enough to come upon them to share.

Please list your find! Include model, part number, series, etc. Include as much info as possible to help others.

Thanks  ;D

BBDs would have been used in surround sound systems correct?

I have a Sony with a "delay time" adjustment.
I just designed a new fuzz circuit! It almost sounds a little different than the last fifty fuzz circuits I designed! ;)

For a long time, what kept BBD production alive - at least until cheap digital reverb chips came about - are budget karaoke machines.  Nearly all of them have an "echo" knob.

The Reticon SAD1024 datasheets always mentioned applications to video production (one of the reasons why the clock inputs had low capacitance and could handle high-freq clock signals better), but my guess is that you're goig to find more busted karaoke machines than video special-FX boards sitting at the curb.

And yes, I have an older Pioneer A/V amp with "surround" that has an MN3008 in it.

I'm looking at the Reticon data sheet for the R5101, which states "typical applications" to be:
Reverberation effects in stereo equipment - not mono??
Sound effects for musical instruments - now they're talking!
Data buffering - pardon??
Variable speech control!!

There have been instances when I've listened to politicians giving speeches when I wished I had a variable speech control!
It would be nice to have a truth/lie mix knob!  :icon_wink:

Unfortunately, it would often need to be wired as a rheostat...

Some organs may contain BBD's as well. Have a look at the Solina String Ensemble ( http://www.dse.nl/~rbos/solina/SSEserie8-servicemanual.pdf  ) : ic 6,7 and 8 on the multi voicing board (right on the first schematic page) are TDA 1022's for chorussing effects. I noticed also some 3280 OTA's in the schematic -  almost feel tempted to take my Solina apart....

You're correct about the Solina String Ensemble containing TDA1022's.

Would like to keep the list to more "common" items that can be found second hand or the likes. TVs, radio, etc.

We know there are many treasures to be found in organs, synths, and the likes but how common are these to be found second hand really.

I like the idea of surround sound televisions. Keep them coming with KNOWN finds.

Don't forget specifics! "A Magnavox TV" doesn't really help the masses ya know  :P

I just did a search on TradeMe (New Zealand ebay-like website) and found three electric organs for NZ$10 or less in my city (Wellington) alone. Organs are such large items that people who don't use them generally just want to get rid of them to save space, so I think that as long as you can buy local, organs are actually a reasonably viable source for BBDs and the like.
If at first you don't succeed... use bigger transistors!
